Hey SD experts: I have a question about my capacity
Just got into the whole RV thing (bought a new TT) but realize that probably the next one will be a 5er. Capacity is the issue; some of the new models we really like appear to be over our capacity. Here's my question:
Our TV is a 2011 F350 XL 6.7L PSD, crew cab, 4x4, long bed, SRW. It has the following relevant options:
- camper package
- 5th wheel hitch prep
- 3.55 locking real axle
- 11500# GVWR package
When I look at the 2011 brochures from Ford, I see a maximum 5th wheel weight of 15,500#. But there's no distinction in their capacity charts if you ahve the 11,500# GVWR package. So does this option increase my 5th wheel weight limit, or is it the same (ie 15,500#) with or without the upgraded GVWR option?
Thanks!
Johnbro

It will be the same, but I think you will find out that your GVW will be your limiting factor. Check out my thread on this subject.....https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...e-mistake.html

There is no distinction.
Payload is your concern. But you need to get your unloaded truck on the scales and find your true weight.
Then you will be able to determine what is left. A 5th wheel will put 20% of its GVW onto your truck in the form of payload.
Don't exceed the axle limits and or the tire ratings, whichever comes first. That is what is important.
