I installed the same Pop-n-Lock in my 2015 Platinum. I didn't have to remove the tailgate step. Did you HAVE to or did it just make it easier for you?

Also, I tapped into a wire under the passenger front door sill plate. Can't recall the color right now though.

Maybe some things changed between 15 and 16??

All in all it was an easy project and well worth the time/money.

Like I and others have said in the past... at the price point for these trucks and the cost of these tailgates..... this should have been a standard factory part.

I couldn't get the lock solenoid assembly into the opening and under the framework with the step assembly in without bending the plate, felt I was better off removing it. As far as the wires, I started at the pass. front and had one wire but could not find the second on to make it work, based on a video, I went to the drivers side and that was worse, that when I figured it was easier to pull the door connection

Interesting. If I have time I'll try to get some pics of the wiring on mine so we can see what's different.

Great pics and write up, I love your neatly done wiring run.

I installed a tailgate lock actuator on all 3 of the Super Duties I've had and also on my ARE toppers, which was extremely useful when I was going in and out of job sites doing a lot of contracting with tools in the back. I tied into a lock wire at the driver's sill as others have indicated.

I've assumed that Ford did not provide a power tailgate lock so that there would be no wires to disconnect when removing the tailgate, but now that they are wiring a backup camera anyway, I wonder why it is not standard.

Try like I did and go into the plug for the door and use a multimeter to find the right wires

A multi-meter may not work due to the short pulse of power. The same with a test light. Going to the plug in the door is the best bet.

Thanks for the detailed pics and write up. Up until now I assumed my tailgate auto locked with the doors. I'm doing this mod for sure.
