overheat issue

hey guys,

My truck is overheating, its cool out and had the heat on for the first time. my dash started to chime and I look down my temp sensor is in the red, before I could pull over it dropped right back to normal. Maybe the thermostat stuck. so I turn the heat on and its blowing cold, as its running the temp starts to climb. any ideas on what the issue could be? thanks

Might be low on coolant. Any signs of leaks?

yeah that sounds like low coolant and it is sucking air. Be aware that it takes a certain kind of coolant.

You should be checking fluids weekly, imho.

You should also check the connections on the temp. Sensors.

Ford orange coolant. Consult your owners manual. Suggest you get it from your local dealer so you have the right stuff.

Is this truck new to you?

senix, no this truck isn't new. The reason I asked is because I had a diesel that took a special fluid, but you could buy it at Walmart. You didn't have to buy the expensive stuff from the dealer. As long as the antifreeze is orange will it work? Thanks.

I would not know if the Walmart meets the spec required for the 6.7. I would have to compare the spec in the owners manual with the spec on the bottle at Walmart.
