'03 F-350 intermittently dies while running

Dies while driving down the road and usually will restart with no problems.Seems to happen more often when it gets hot out. IPR/ICP are good.It took a long time to start once also. I'm leaning toward fuel pump but ?

You need to get a gauge on the upper fuel filter housing port and see what you have for pressure. Process of elimination.

I've got a cap with a test port on the way.

While you wait, I would not drive the truck. Starving injectors of fuel gets expensive real fast.

What were the numbers for ICP and IPR while we wait?

At idle 890-900 psi and approx. 25%. IPR when driving was never more than 40%.

Sounds like good advice. Truck's not needed until next month anyway.

Let's see those numbers once it's at operating temperature. You should have ICP of580-650 and IPR of 21-23%.

If that IPR was after it was warmed up and 25%, you have a leak, why it's hard to start when warm. AND the 03 year models have a know issue with bad HPOP design.... signs of failing pump are hard starts, loss of power, loss of throttle response.

That was after a cold start. I'll get some #'s when at operating temp.

I'm thinking you have a electrical problem instead. Most likely FICM plugs are loose or its a cam or crank sensor issue.
I would also look at your ICP plug for any oil getting into the plug assy.

My truck idles at 585 and 21% hot. Being you have a swash plate HPOP I am not seeing 25% to be a issue. 21-25% is pretty much in the norm. Ford does substantiate tearing into the HPO system when IPR is at 30% at idle hot.

I really think you have either a sensor going or a FICM plug hanging off the unit.

Push all three FICM plugs in hard and look at the ICP plug closely along with cam and crank sensors.

Could be a short in the ICPv connection , with engine running do a wiggle test on the 3 wires.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll check those plugs tomorrow. The ICP is located under the turbo on '03's correct?

Yes , you may be able ( with gorilla arms) reach it , carefull your reaching in the hot zone., look for oil out the connection side of ICP if none have the engine running and pinch wiggle the connection.

I can't even see the ICP under the turbo more less wiggle it. Anyone have a photo or diagram of the location? I'm really leaning toward the fuel pump because after it dies it takes a bit of cranking to get it started.
