Good point. But I've always had pumps fail when the tank is full(My luck) and its usually when I don't have a 19 gallon fuel container laying around.

Well the problem is, that the front tank was known not to work when I bought the truck. So that means dealing with the back tank which I suspect will be a nightmare given that there isn't hardly any room to work with. the fuel diverter valve is chewed up somewhat this poor truck was SEVERELY neglected by the previous owner!!!

court1100f, I believe it is the Fuel Tank Reservoir Switching Valve. Search for it here and you will bind some very good information on it. I rebuilt mine and now it works great. Let me know if you do and I'll tell you where to get the o-ring from. BTW, I'm from Lubbock but I live in Virginia

Bro, this one just by the visual I got yesterday the housing is chewed up and heavily damaged. It doesn't leak mind you but I'd rather hunt one down used and rebuild that I'd feel more confident in it. BUT that said I'm not giving up on this truck!!!!

You might want to siphon some fuel and see what it looks like. Shove the hose to the bottom of the tank.

If you google "eec4 test connector" you will find a picture that shows the fuel pin. Turn the key on ground that pin and the pump will run.

On the Rangers the last of the frame mount pumps was 87, Does this 89 F150 still have a frame mount?

Has a frame AND in tank pump. One is low pressure and other is high. I think tank is low pressure and frame rail is high.

Yeah, thats how my 87 dual tank Ranger is setup, the weak spot is the frame mount pump
I like the newer setup with a high pressure pump in each tank & no frame mount. That way you always have a working pump.

This is an example & courtesy of the work Bill K does here:

Well the update...........I went over got it to start but it fought to start frame mount pumps having to pull fuel from the back tank. So the next phase is dropping that tank and my next question for ya'll is this How in the hell do you drop that back tank I tried on a 90 and couldn't get it off.........

so my new plan of attack is to, Drop the front tank and replace that sending unit it's alot easier than the back. so I'm gonna bypass the diverter valve and join the lines from the tank to the pump together. if the switch doesn't work right on the dash I'll get a pair of jump wires and bypass the switch
