Hey guys, new guy with egr and smog questions

Hey y'all I just bought a new to me 1983 F150 4x4 300 6 with an automatic. It is a low miles truck and it seems tight. It sat for quite some time. Before I bought it the po primed the carb to start it and melted a few vacuum lines and wires. I got it running quite well but the vacuum system is in need of serious help. I'd like to delete the smog pump and egr system. I don't know where to start?

I'd like to know what I would have to do to my distributor to get it right without the egr? Would I be better off with a hei? Can you change the springs and set the curve on a 300 6 hei in the same way you would on a sbc Hei? What can be done with the stock dizzy to run it non egr? Thanks for any information?

I've been reading on here for a couple nights trying to sort this out. I've used the search function and had some luck. Sorry for beating a dead horse on this.
I have a little more info to add. The cat has been removed. I have most of the vacuum line replaced/spliced. The hard plastic ones are brittle and break if bumped. I can replace those completely if needed.I can live with the egr setup but the cat missing seems would make the smog pump useless. I would like to know if I can just ditch the smog pump and still have a driveable truck? Also one of the vacuum lines that go to the air cleaner lid is missing and I can't figure out where it goes. This is a pre feedback carb truck.

Back when I had my first truck, an '81, I ditched the pump and blocked off the egr. and it ran fine. I ended up with vac line problems too and ended up plugging of all but the one that operated the dist. vac. advance. The cat was already gone when I bought the truck. It was a half ton 4x4 model and pulled 18-19 mpg consistently in this form.
