throttle response loss
1995 ford f150 5.o engine automatic trans with air, loses throttle response when check engine light come on then check light goes out and throttle response come back. No rhyme or reason for this, it ran fine all winter and once the heat came this year it started. I have not had codes checked because I was told there is no memory for odb codes on this truck so you have to have a reader active when the check engine light comes on. If this is not correct please let me know. Anybody have any ideas on what this could be or at least stear me in the direction. Is there is a reasonable priced obd1 reader, please let me know. I don't want to buy 2 or 3 readers to get one that works right. Thanks in advance, Marc

That is incorrect. There are both active and stored codes. I use a cheap Ford EEC-IV reader from the local parts store. Some guys prefer a couple different name brand readers (not sure what they are). You can also use a jumper wire and count the check engine light flashes but I find that too difficult to keep track especially if multiple codes are present.
