Help identifying Purpose and name of part

Hello again!

I've been working on my grandpas truck, looking for an exhaust leak, and stumbled upon some broken/rusted off parts. Think someone could identify it and tell me it's purpose? Thanks!

Also, my grandpa and I figure we can fabricate a replacement part for it. Is this a viable option or is a replacement part a must?

Check valve for the Thermactor Emission system (smog pump).

CA resident: It has to be present and in good working order in order to pass the smog test.

What size is the engine?

1983 F100 300 I-6 CA vehicle:

The tube is E3TZ-5F235-F attaches to catalytic converter w/a clamp. See 5F235 in pic at lower right - 5A231 is the clamp / Obsolete

The check valve (shown in same pic as 9A487) threads onto the tube.

There are several different check valves, A/T or M/T? If A/T, which type is it: C5 or C6 or AOD?

The truck failed smog and has been sitting for about two years (maybe because of this pipe?).
It has a manual transmission. The 5F235 part is no good anymore because it has holes ripped in it from rust. We managed to fabricate a new pipe because a new one from autozone is $80!

However, since it seems to be essential for passing smog, I am assuming a replacement part is a must?

Shame you're not near Dallas, I picked up a junkyard 4.9l for a core and have all those smog pump parts/hoses sitting around.

Dang. They're charging $80 for the thing at autozone! If our fabricated part doesn't work then maybe i could pay for shipping?

Hey again guys. Another hurtle. These pipes broke off the exhaust manifold. I think one delivers hot air to the choke but I don't know how to repair either of these parts. Any tips on how to go about mending them? Do I even need them? (I assume so, otherwise they wouldn't be on the thing!!)

How do I go about fitting those Without leaks. Is there a video or guide somewhere that you can direct me to?

Typically, one drills out the opening and inserts the adapters [press fit] and connects the tubing. The tubing of this kit is aluminum and easily shaped. The place where it is attached to the exhaust manifold is external to the exhaust flow, so there should be no exhaust leaks.

First off what you get it for. Then we're exactly were does it hook to the exhaust.

Unknow

Unknown exhaust part get yourself another pipe just a hare bigger so it will slide over the broken one then take a good heat sealer to seat the two parts so they become one or get a flex hose aluminum and slip it over the broken one to extend it to were it needs to go if possible
