having learned a lesson on older model vehicles,,,, door codes dont mean much if you dont know the history of vehicle,,, seen motor swaps tranny swaps heck even body swaps,,,,nothing like working on a ranger that has mazda part numbers and older motor with newer mustang tranny and rearend,,,,

We need to know if you have 2wd or 4wd to answer. In either case this Ranger Station tech page has good information on which transmissions were used when: Ford Ranger Manual Transmissions at The Ranger Station
It's easy to differentiate the 2 possibilities because the Mitsubishi FM146 has a bottom cover (looks like an oil pan) and the Mazda M5OD doesn't.
