Floor shifter opinion

Henry has a B&M floor shifter that really is horrible. I have looked at the options and it looks like the Lokar shifters are the best out there.

They have two varieties, one that mounts on the transmission and one that mounts on the floor.

So what do you '48-'52 owners use?

Thanks!

Knowing what transmission you have would help with good responses. Is it stock or a replacement? If stock, which one? If a replacement, what? What manufacture and model designation?

We have a Lokar floor mount on a 700r4.

I did not like the button head cap screws that come with it.They can be a pain when working on it,replaced them with hex bolts.

Over than that,quality stuff.

We did the Lokar 32" and shift indicator also put in the trans mounted parking brake. So far I am happy with both.

DOH! Sorry. It is a stock C4.

Chuck, yours looks great. Whose A/C unit is that under the dash?

Later!

I am using a Gennie Shifter in mine. Looks like the Lokar but was out before Lokar existed. There is no pushbutton on it. You lean it to the side to shift.

On all of these kind of shifters read the manual good some of them require you pulling the original shift arm from the case and replacing it. On my FMX trans that would of been dropping the pan.

The AC unit is a Vintage Air Mini Slimline system. This system has heat and air and works great here in AZ. It also allowed me to keep the cowl vent which I use all the time. The cowl vent lets me mix the air in the cab, if I didn't the ac would freeze me out.

My lokar shifter did require me to change out the shifter arm in the AOD transmission

Thanks Chuck. Is the shifter a floor mount or transmission mount? If it is transmission mounted, is it front, middle or rear mount?

I know it seems like a lot of questions but I do not want to cut up the carpets any more than I have to. The B&M unit that is there now is horrible and very very ugly. And short too!

Thanks!

Chuck
I am putting an AOD in my F600
I was wondering if there are options for the parking brake where you don't change the axle as in my case
Is there a parking brake kit that can mount at the transmission as you referenced that will be similar to the original that locked the drive shat

A search for aftermarket parking brake will give several options. Here is one. This type has been discussed on the forum.

Mine is a transmission mount set up in the front position, this is with an AOD. Each setup will change the mounting position depending on transmission and where you mounted the engine and year of the truck. yamagrant is happy with his set up mounted in the rear. so you just have to figure out where you want the shifter to pop up.

I have a Lokar straight shaft 23" long with a black **** on a C4 automatic. Other than the chrome shaft it looks like the original floor shift. Works good, even the neutral safety switch.
