Hood Nut striped out (77 F-100)
Gentlemen,
One of the 4 "caged" hood nuts is striped out on my 77 F-100. Can these nuts simply be removed and replaced? If not, is it best to drill the hole to "clean it out" and then cut new threads with a tap? As another alternative, I have heard of a "riv-nut" approach that lets you anchor a new nut in place, but have never tried this.
Many thanks, great advice on all aspects of the restoration of this dentside!

Thanks guys ! Yes the bolts holding the hinge to the hood. Once I got my overhead pulley and come-along in place (no more bugging the neighbors to hold the hood) and got the hood moved so I could see what was what, it was all very simple. What I feared would be "caged" nuts turned out to be what I would call "J" nuts which slip in and out easily. Every hardware store has these.
