The smell could be from a CCV reroute. Another idea would be the oil seal on the turbo leaking oil into the exhaust. Either way, quick, easy, and cheap fixes.

Set up a Scangauge2 or Torque/Dashboss and just drive it. You might change all the fluids and filters too.

According to the receipts in the glove box all the fluids including a coolant flush were just changed by the dealer 20000 miles ago. Scan gauge is already in and mounted. Gonna do an oil and fuel filter change this weekend. Followed with shocks and tires soon. The only real thing I am concerned about is the odd smell. Seems to be getting less frequent the more I drive it though.

You would need an IDS for that.

Because you live in Michigan, your truck is highly likely to have ARZ2AL11 (an inductive heating flash for 2005-2010 trucks) on the FICM. This does an awesome job of helping the truck start below 50 degrees, but it's one that covers up stiction and does a great job of compensating for weak or bad injectors to the point of failure. It accomplishes this by one of two strategies:

-Making an injector overfuel on one bank to compensate for a weak injector on the opposite bank.

-Depending on how bad the situation is, it may also bring the rest of the injectors down to meet the 1 or more that aren't able to keep up with the demand if the first strategy doesn't keep the idle and engine performance smooth.

With an IDS, a check of a box can give each injector an equal amount of fuel and make the weak or bad injectors show their cards.
