holley carb installation advise

Hi

I'll be installing a holley carb (on a 360 intake for now with mr gasket). Any pointers on installation? It is a brand new 4160 and it would replace my i believe 2100, which performs poory as truck was sitting without use for very long time.

Thanks
Nick

Make sure you have a few inline fuel filters, so the trash in the tank does not trash that new carb.

I run one just down stream of the sending unit, and then in between the fuel pump and the carb.

What four-barrel intake will you be using?

I am planning to put a 390 intake. I saw few on ebay for $200 shipped, but not sure if it is a good deal (it would need a good cleaning and a paint). I will checkout local junk yards before making that purchase.

I can't see myself purchasing new Edler or other ones for $400 + shipping.

Any suggestions?

Nick

I cleaned my tank by taking it off the truck. I also cleaned the fuel line.

Any recommendation for a fuel filter or are they all the same.

In my opinion, the cast iron 390 intake is plenty good unless you are trying to build a performance engine. They are heavy, so figure that it will be a wrestling match getting it on the engine. I would recommend having a friend or two help out. $200 seems like too much. If you can find one locally, like on Craigs List, they are usually about $75.

You'll also need the 4 barrel kick down linkage, or at least the adapter that Holley makes. If you find an intake at a local junk yard, grab that kick down linkage as well. You also need the throttle linkage if it's there. The other way to go is to straighten the bends out of the 2 barrel throttle linkage so that it's straight in order for it to line up with the carb right.
