Looking for a diesel tech in Portland, OR

I've been a lurker for a while and this is my first post.

I'm about to purchase '06 6.0L with 118k miles on it. I'm looking for a diesel technician in Portland, OR to do a pre-purchase inspection for me.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I went ahead with AG Diesel and they came back with comprehensive inspection report on the vehicle I'm looking at.

For all 6.0l specialists out here, I've attached the inspection report (F350_InspectionReport.pdf). Could you please take a quick look at it and let me know your thoughts?

The seller and I agreed on pre-inspection price of $17k.

I'd like your thoughts on the severity of the negative items reported and what could be fair price for this truck. Alos helpful would be the total cost of any immediate repairs I need to do.

It's a '06 Lariat with 118k miles on it.

Thanks for your time!!

OK folks, I received the pre-purchase inspection results from the shop yesterday and I'm posting it here.

All of you 6.0L gurus out there,

Could you please review these quick and let me know the condition of this vehicle in layman's terms?

You will need to plan a full fluids change.... oil and fuel filters. I'd flush the coolant and switch to EC1 rated.

Some drips/wet spots not a big deal, easy fix. Needs tires and someone to take good care of it. Engine stuff looks good, oil/coolant at 3° is great. Needs a front end service, ball joints and all the steering gear are a wear item at about this mileage.

The fan speed sensor may just be that the EGR sensor needs plugged in. If its deleted, keep it plugged in as it does control the fan or at least assists with speed of fan.

If you can turn a wrench, nothing difficult that I see and no major engine related stuff, nothing from that report seem to scream "pass this one up".

If its what your looking for, $17k is not a bad price.

I didn't see an A/C check saying it was working good. Have the dealer pull a report from Ford to reveal anything done at the dealer. Check for head studs, that could reveal headgaskets already done.

Good luck, seems that you have a good candidate to me.
Welcome to the site... we need a picture!

Batteries look low at 10v, can be had at Costco for a reasonable price.

There are a lot of flags to me, needs batteries and tires and all fluids changed and possibly intake removed and cleaned. I bought a 2006 F350 lariat from original owners for $9500 He had receipts for over $6000 in the last 3 years and the car fax showed dealer oil changes between 3 and 5 thousand miles. I think you can do better on price, this does not sound like a well maintained good condition rig to me and that is what the price reflects.

They did a pretty good job looking the truck over, even caught the aftermarket oil cap (filter is also).

It's at the 100k service point... needs a good bunch of stuff done to get her back to a good reliable point. Not hard work, I'd expect to see these on a used truck the owner decided to trade instead of keep. Use the required maintenance items to get the price down.

Mine was at 97k, did all the same stuff this one needed and paid 20k for mine, two years ago. That price in my area isn't out of line, maybe for your area.... PORTLAND, they should be everywhere.

A perfect truck could take months to find, an acceptable truck will have a few issues easily corrected.

Ball joints and steering linkage $1,000?, Tires $1,500?, EGR cleaning $100?, Electrical (lights) $100? Would like to know the rest of the engine readings. Hot start, cold start. Get a warranty on the engine!

The relatively low miles is setting the price higher. I don't go by miles, how a rig in maintained is WAY, WAY more important. Lack of maintenance and abuse can kill a truck in a few thousand miles. However, the miles are used to find a value so it might be "worth" that much and that will help with resale value. If this is on a lot that is close to "retail" price, private party I think closer to $12,500.
If it was perfect condition, no scratches or dents, documented maintenance, interior in good condition, AND that is what YOU want, I can see close to $20,000.
That is REALLY what it comes down to, what is it worth TO YOU.

Here is what MIGHT be comparable to what you are looking at but has new injectors and EGR cooler and some other stuff. I relize it might be a piece of crap without looking at it.
SUPER DEAL on a 2006 Ford 350

This is a short bed, but sounds like it has some major work done, again, looks good in the pics, but you never know.
2006 Ford F350

Sivamr, not trying to say the one you are looking at is necessarily a bad deal, just want to make sure you make an informed decision.
Whatever you decide a USED truck is ALWAYS a gamble, you do you due diligence to check everything out to lessen the odds of a failure, but anything could fail at any time. Its the same with a new truck, but it has a warrantee that covers you for the first few years/miles.
Good luck with you purchase.
