BBQ Cook-Off

Hello, folks.

I have once again entered into the Ribs cook-off competition.

The event will take place in Pleasant Hill, CA, on July 23rd. It will be at the Back Forty Texas BBQ Roadhouse and Saloon, 100 Coggins Drive.

If you can arrange to be in the area, please stop by around 4:00 PM and try my ribs. Last year they had us cook up five racks and only had us submit 5 ribs for judging. I ended up giving away a LOT of ribs and still had a LOT left over.

The submissions have to go in to the judges at 4:00 and the results will be announced at 5:00. By that point, we'll be cleaning up and packing away, but should be able to relax some and share ribs.

Come on out and enjoy!

Don't know if I can make it, but it sounds like a good time will be had.

Would be nice to go, but quite a bit too far away for me.

I would appreciate that.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can drink it during the competition.

While the rules prohibit me from providing alcohol to anyone that is not on my team, I believe they are silent about others providing alcohol to me or my team. I don't think it would violate the Back Forty's Alcohol License, but I don't really know.

The problem is that it will be a long, tiring day, and I should really postpone my drinking until the equipment is all cleaned up and packed away. At that point, it would probably be better if I got my drink(s) from the Back Forty's saloon.

I'd be happy to trade an empty growler for a full one. Can I offer you one from the Pyramid Alehouse?

If you don't have to fill the tank on your truck, you can probably use that money to buy a couple of racks of ribs from your local BBQ house (and still have money left over!)

We'll just have to catch you some other time.

Hi, Don :

I don't know the official answer, but considering that the event will be taking place in their parking lot, I don't see why a dog shouldn't be there. I'd be a little surprised if they let a dog enter inside the restaurant.

Didn't I meet you at Mantown? Seems like I talked with a guy from southern California that was traveling with his dog...

Not me. Because of the dog, we are quite familiar with eating outside on the patio. We always check ahead for dog friendly locations.

So does your dog send you to the BBQ restaurants so that they can get the left over bones?
