Going to look at an F350!

I'm looking for a big boy to haul a travel trailer since my Dakota can barely pull a popup. Been looking for a while, finally found a few I'm ready to look at. While I don't need a dually for what I plan on hauling, never hurts to have too much truck.

From the looks of it, it looks good. Mileage is low. I've seen many of same age with 2-3x as many miles. Price isn't too bad for my area. According to cargurus.com, it's been on the market 159 days with a $5k price drop thus far.

Any opinions will be appreciated, but I'm excited to go check it out.

It was definitely a service truck.
I would run a Carfax on it.
See if you can get service records from Ford.
Check the axle code on the door tag to find out what gears it has and if it is limited slip or an open diff. I don't see a switch if it was equipped with the e-locker. Withe FX4 stickers, I hope it would.
Underneath the hood is pretty dirty.
I would take a look underneath just make sure you don't see excessive rust or abuse.

I'd guess it is still on the market because most people looking for a dually want diesel. With it being on the market so long, I'd try and get a few thousand knocked off the price and get it fully detailed inside and out (including under the hood). With it sitting so long, I would also test the battery and possibly have them replace it.

Most important, don't be afraid to walk away. That could save you many $$$ in negotiating.

Other than that, it looks like a nice truck. The 6.2 is a nice sounding engine if you uncork the exhaust. I'd do that and a stereo upgrade and maybe some seat covers and the privacy tint on the windows and you'll be hauling pop-ups all over the country

Thanks for all that! I'll have to write it down so I know what to do when I gt there. How do I get service records from Ford? Not sure how to contact them.

I told the wife we can go check it out. If we don't like it or something is wrong, we walk away. There will always be others.

Thanks.

depending on the model .. XL, XLT, and fancy.. the display can display HOURS ..

running hours
idle hours.

I have the 2012 XL
purchased last fall

mine is 4,100 hours at 138,000 miles .. that is an average of 36 mph.. a freeway truck
and I had 600 idle hours... so idling for lunches
and my truck was a Fleet/Lease with records.

look at trucks owner manual to get display of hours.. easy .. just need the directions.

also the DRW.. does you state charge extra to Plate a Big truck???

Go to a dealer and ask for an Oasis Report. How big of a trailer are you looking to pull?

It is an XL model. I couldn't find anything on the plate.

What is an Oasis report? 30-34ft RV.

An Oasis report will show you any work that has been done by ford and any recalls for that VIN. I would suggest 4.30 gears for a trailer that big, I pull a 26ft (6000lb loaded) trailer with a SRW CCSB F250 with 3.73's and I would prefer the 4.30's to avoid locking out 6th gear on rolling hills. I know it is apples to oranges, but I found a rust free 2013 XL with 14k on it and they are asking $28k, but that is here in the PNW. Regardless,I would say the truck you found has a decent amount of wiggle room on the price if you decide to pull the trigger.

4:30's are nice but are like chicken teeth.... dealers mostly do not stock them.
and do try to discourage New truck buyers from getting 4:30's

but look at my rig... I do West Virginia hills just fine... with 140,000 miles and 3:73's
my last trip, truck, motorcycle and trailer LOADED was 17,000 total pounds. no problems .

Been browsing in the F250's as well. But, its only a 5.4 that I've found. I still need to buy an RV, so I don't want to throw too much at a truck. Also, was looking at Chevy 3500s, they are priced thousands above what their value is. Not many Dodge 3500s that suit my needs. I really don't want to go older (2005 and older), but thats all they seem to have. 2014/15 or 2005 and older. Still looking though. Once I get a few hours, I'll go check this truck (50 mins each way).

Thanks for the help! Glad I asked before I went.

Went and test drove it. First time driving a truck (minus a 26ft box truck) that big. I love it. Not sure I will get this exact one, but definitely love the size.

Did you try parking it? A srw will pull that trailer just fine. Dually have several disadvantages - ride quality, parking, narrow streets driving, tire cost, snow and off road performance, drive throughs, rear visibility from outside mirrors, cars always want to pass you, to name a few.

I actually backed it up between 2 vehicles when I brought it back (same way they had it). I NEED a crew cab and in 1 ton, there is not many near me that aren't in my price range. Unfortunately, drw is what is available.

Little update. It has a 6.2L V8 SFI SOHC 16V engine, 4WD. The carfax is clean. I just don't know how to get a Ford service record. Suggestions?

Go to a Ford dealer with the vin # and ask a service manager for an oasis report. They will most likely look at you like your an idiot and either tell you they don't know what it is or try to charge you for it. Those seem to be the 2 most common responses people get anyway. Unless it had a major issue I wouldn't expect to see much especially if it was a fleet truck they tend to do there own maintenance on whatever schedule they deem appropriate. According to eits it's a 3.73 truck. It's going to be up to you to use your better judgement of whether it's a good truck to buy or not if i didn't need a dually there is no way I'd buy on just for the heck of it but that's me are they offering any sort of warranty? The good news is the 6.2 and the 6 speed toqureshift have proven to be a reliable combo. I would venture to guess the reason it has sat so long is it's just not a desirable combo.
