Yeah even if they can't carry them off they can do some damage with their claws..

 

That is what happened to a woman's cat that lives around the corner. The owl couldn't pick it up but tore the hell out of it trying.

 

Wouldn't be a pretty sight that's for sure

 

Between the hawks, owls, and cats. We don't have a one ground squirrel this year.

 

They are good at catching them...LOL

 

The hawks just pluck them out of the grass as they fly by.

 

They can see them from far off too...LOL

They are somethin'. We have had a Cooper's hawk nesting in a tree across the street. Years ago the Audobon Society used to sponsor shoots of this particular hawk, because they prey almost exclusively on small birds, LOL. Scared the little old ladies I guess.

You want to see a big bird, the Golden eagle out West, they are frickin' huge. The Barred Owl is the one you'll hear screeching and hollering and whooping "who cooks for you.. who cooks for you... who cooks for you all..."
