2016 Superduty F250 - vague steering?

The steering in the 2016 F250 4x4 6.2L Crewcabs has almost no feel to it. It's almost like they have too much power assist. Edmunds complained about this in their review of the truck..Are all of the 2016 F250/F350s like this and is there some way to modify the steering to get some additional feedback to the steering wheel?

This was the very first thing I noticed, now after 1000 miles, I am used to it and it does not bother me so much.

These aren't sports cars. They are stiffly sprung heavy solid axle 4 wheel drive vehicles. The steering will always be a little vague, but if you describe your exact symptoms maybe we can recommend some things that may improve your driving experience.

Is your truck stock or lifted?

What tires are you running? What PSI are you running in your tires?

How many miles are on your truck?

Have you had it aligned? What was the castor set at?

No, they are not sports cars but I feel that there should be some feedback at the steering wheel. By vague, I mean that there is almost no resistance to turning the wheel. My 1967, 1975, 1983, 1984 and 2005 F250's all had good feedback at the wheel at highway speeds. So, when driving down the highway, it sort of feels like spinning a pie plate on the end of a pencil. The wheel in my 2016 with 367 miles on it has virtually no feel to it at highway speeds.

Truck is stock with factory 18" tires (don't have the exact size in front of me) at 65psi.
Truck has not been aligned yet.....I am trying to determine if the steering feel is "normal" for these trucks or if maybe there was a TSB issued which addresses this.

I have read multiple reviews where vague steering was a major complaint about these trucks.

I just got my 2016 last night and only have about 20 miles on it, but yes, the steering is effortless. It's precise though, not vague. My 1990 F-150 has vague steering.

I just turned over 1000 miles on my new one and I think the steering has great feel and response for such a big, heavy truck. No problems here.

I wonder if it has electric steering instead of hydraulic pump running off the belt. My Honda has that and it feels like as you described. My 2001 F250 feels like a truck as it should.

On the highway mine feels like there is too much power steering assist. I thought maybe it was because I was used to the F150. The steering is not vague by any means & the truck runs super straight down the highway. I took me a couple hundred miles to get used to it.

When I used the word "vague", I meant that, at highway speeds, the steering is almost effortless and because of such little feedback at the wheel, it gives one the sensation that there is too little control of the steering.

Despite that, the truck tracks true. It should be interesting when I start towing next week. You have answered my question though and it sounds as if all of the 2016's are like this.

I would have the alignment checked and set with as much positive caster as possible. Positive caster will tend to make the steering self centering and sometimes increase steering effort. Negative caster will do the opposite, making the vehicle seem vague or less precise and possibly decreasing steering effort.

Don't worry. When the death wobble starts you'll be wishing for less feedback through the wheel.
