1986 F350 with Diesel

I just go me a new project. Its a 1986 F350 crew cab with a diesel. The engine is a 7.3L IDI out of a 1990 so there shouldn't be any issues with that. It originally had the 6.9l diesel. The problem im having is finding a good wiring diagram. the wiring is in bad shape and I haven't been able to find the diagram that covers the diesel, only the gas. Any suggestions on where to locate this

Does your truck have this type of glowplug controller? This is the later type controller, but I am not sure what year they went to it. I thought 6.9's had a different setup. So you might have some wiring differences depending on how the engine swap was handled.

The old controller was 83-86, New controller 87 on ...

You have a mixed bag so it would take verification to as what system is on that truck, hopefully it's like the image Franklin2 posted.
It may also look like this, the 83-86 style.

Either way it would be located on the back of the motor behind the air cleaner ... Unless someone relocated it!

-Enjoy

7. 3 cylinder heads don't have the threaded port in the water jacket for the early style controller. Someone had to re-wire it to run the later controller.

Maybe I am mistaken then... Did they use that port for something else on the 7.3 or just plug it?

Gary's Garagemahal website is a great resource... as far as the original 1986 diesel specific wiring there are two pages from the EVTM:

Starting and glow plug controll

Charging and power distribution

Also there are two sticky threads from the IDI forum on each style of glow plug system that may help:

83-86 style glow plug system

87-94 style glow plug system

Hopefully those links will help you sort out what was originally there and what may have been done to it.

I just came across an 86 F350 diesel. Before I dive into glow plugs I'm working on the headlight relay mod and the 1G to 3G Alternator swap. Here's a pic of the wire set before swap. I'm stumped, any info is surely appreciated.

I wish I could help. My 86 has almost none of the original wiring left. The ignition was connected to a toggle switch, the starter was connected to a push button. even the turn signals were bypassed and an after market unit was strapped to the steering column.
