You forgot to say in my opinion, my 6.2 is rated to pull 15600 with 4.30 gears and we have pulled our 16K 5th wheel all over the country including Wolf Creek Pass in CO with any problems and I've never had to add any DEF or fuel additives, just get in it and hit the key.

Sorry RVpuller, no insult intended at all, I love my 6.2, and would not hesitate to hook up to that weight or more pulling around locally. It's great to here that with the 4.30's, the drivetrain is up to the task of pulling that weight across the country. How does it do on the steep grades? Will it hold third gear or is it down to second?

Looking at ford tow ratings, does anyone understand why a 3.73 trucks rating goes down 100 pounds for a fifth wheel, while 4.30 trucks go up 2600 pounds for a fifth wheel?

On steep grades 2nd or 3rd and sometimes even 1st depending on the altitude and just how hard you want to push it, I tend to be on the conservative side because I keep my trucks for a long time.

you did not do what you think you did..

do you know why ford makes 8 inch , 9 inch, 10.5 inch rear ends,

a transmission can not change the leverage on the rear axles from the transmission.
transmission can change the torque on the shaft.. not the leverage on the drive axles. just like a transmission can not change the leverage of the axles on the diameter of the wheels/tires.
