Cigarette lighter installation ideas
Hi. I have an 84 f150 I6 300. It didn't come stocked with a cigarette lighter but yet it has an ashtray? I'm assuming it was an option. So to plug in my cell, I took out the disk where the cig lighter should be and I'm wondering where some folks hooked the wires to. There are many options including: running wires directly to the battery with an inline fuse. What would you do?

Hmmm....I didn't look very good because I looked at the fuses and there were none for a cig lighter. I'm not really wanting to hook it up to another 12v component to short it out. I did see at walmart last night a fuse with a wire attached that u can plug in your fuse block. What have u all done?

Yeah, the wiring should already be there; look for a kinda-thick yellow wire that I believe has black hash marks, there should already be a connector back there.
BUT BE SURE because there are several yellow wires back there and you really don't want to use the wrong one.

Heres what I found begind the cig lighter spot. I checked the voltage and its jumping around but the highest number is 12.8 dc. Looks like I'll have to adapt it to the lighter. I'm assuming this is it!

That's probably it, but the wire should be yellow with light blue dots, as shown here: Horn, Speed Control, & Cigar Lighter: - ???Gary's Garagemahal. And the fuse should be #16 and it is a 20 amp. It is shared by the horn, so you can pull #16 and see if that kills the power to that wire and then you'll know.
And before you ask where #16 is, take a look at this: Fuse Block & Circuit Protection - ???Gary's Garagemahal.

Not about to argue with you, I guarantee you know more about this then I, I believe my 94 is black with yellow tracer, just went to look and my computer is in the way and it's a b.... to remove so I can't confirm.
My 86 is Yellow with a Blue (maybe Light Blue) tracer stripe.
EDIT:
Got beat!

Ford discontinued dots and hash marks on the wiring in 86, which is why I used the 81 EVTM for his 84 truck. The 86 EVTM shows what you have - yellow with a light blue stripe: Horn & Cigar Lighter - ???Gary's Garagemahal.
