08-F250 6.4 Water pump replacement.

I have a 2008 F250 6.4 and I need to replace the water pump. Since I’m going to be in there I was looking for some advice on water other items I should replace while I have everything apart. Was going to do the tensioner, pulleys and belt also but was sure what else.
Also a little back story to how I got here.

I had the truck go into the Reduced Power Mode over the weekend. The truck has 165K on and hasn't given me any troubles other than normal wear items. My generic reader couldn’t read the codes so I had a friend come over to with his expensive reader. The code he pulled off was P252F. His Snap-On reader gave him some suggestions and we reset everything and started looking into it. BTW He is not a diesel mech. It appears that Injectors #2, #3, & #5 were not 0. I think #3 & #5 were positive and #2 was negative. #5 was up to 5.0, which I believe they should all be 0.0 .

We took the truck out for a drive around the block and we started to hear some squeaking nose which I thought might be the belt. Took the truck back home and started to shoot the **** a little bit. Well about ten minutes later there is a huge puddle under the truck with antifreeze and it appears the water pump is streaming water out.

So long story short I was going to fix the water pump first before I get back on the P252F code.

Thanks in advance guys!

I cannot speak much on the code, that would be better suited for some of the folks with scanners. I did attach the waterpump diagram even though it doesn't show much. If you are looking to stick with an OEM pump then you will need to get Ford part number 8C3Z8501B. If you go aftermarket and end up needing an OEM gasket take a look at 8C3Z8507B (the gasket).

Thank you gino and landland. I"m going to tackle the water pump first. I did get all the parts ordered. I"m going to go ahead and do both belts, tensioners and pulleys.

I've been reading about the P252F code and I did disconnect the CAC and there was very little oil in it. Maybe a tablespoon at most. That will be my project after this water pump.

You may also want to change the engine front cover as well. They are prone to cavitation. You will see this when you remove the water pump. The replacement front covers are updated with a channel machined behind where the water pump is installed, to control coolant flow to prevent this.

That part includes the low pressure oil pump as well. You will also need the front crank seal installer tool #303-1259 to install the new seal.

On another note, you may want to install new thermostats too, since you're going to have to remove them as well, if you haven't already thought of that too.
