you guys rubbing this in have probably never been in a position that you have no place to turn. I'm from Idaho, could go weeks without seeing another person, no cell service and the walk out may just kill you, staying would be a disaster.
Carrying some spares is a no brainer, especially if you have the room, the knowledge to make the repair and don't want your trip interrupted by a stupid mistake or the burden of a costly repair.
I once spent an entire 10 days in Winnemucca NV, the last gas before heading through the Arco desert to Idaho because of a failed part similar to this. Left the spare part on the bench, cost me $1200 (big money at the time) and ended the trip. Hotel expense, food and waiting for the part to arrive killed it, was not gambling either. Was headed home for an Elk hunting trip, coming from California, 16 hours straight through, had done it in my sleep many times. Did have a little company to ease the pain... when I was young of course.
Thor... carry a spare fuel filter set!
1/2 the trip is preparing.

We have parts stores, ford dealerships, and readily accessible shops everywhere in Canada. However, we are more sparsely populated and parts and fuel are further between in places. I agree with being prepared. My truck and trailer have much of the lists covered by the OP. I don't carry specific parts, but I do carry fluids, filters, compressor, Genny, ect. That being said, I have never been left stranded so far. I agree the best defense is preparedness. Cheque your tires often, look closely at trailer sidewalls, do a walk around pre trip before starting each day and enjoy your travels.

....and buying a new truck fixes that? They ALL have their problems.

I'm pretty sure the title of the thread was exactly what you wrote above and one of the spare parts I now have is what failed.
This is what it looked like when the 2 week old fan clutch left me stranded the last time. I was lucky enough to have a friend tow my trailer home while I limped mine back 100 miles.
We sat there for 7 hours.... It's not ever happening again.

I don't trust any vehicle. New, old or otherwise they have all failed me at one time or another. I feel though that spending $40k+ on a new truck or a few hundred here and there is a big difference. I can fix anything on this truck.

I can't believe I didn't mention this since I work in the industry. I do have a recommendation though. More than likely your RV has a 2.5 lb extinguisher. I would get at least a 5 lb one to be in the truck with you. That 2.5 lb portable is just to look good. It won't put out much of anything. You can find a larger extinguisher just about anywhere, but beware of the date. A lot of them will sit on a shelf for years. I would recommend Ansul brand first, Pyro chem second and Amerex third. Kidde or First Alert are throwaways. They will work once, but if you have it serviced, the likelihood it leaks down are much greater.

Well, Saturday is our last day and we've hit a snag. Rear brake caliper slide pins stuck, warped the rotors and destroyed a set of ceramic pads. So, $250 and 6 hours later, she's all fixed and back on the road. What a PITA. I also replaced the back plates, e-brake shoes and hardware while I was in there. Everything else is working like a charm. I hit a scale a few days ago and the rig weighed 20,434. I'm averaging 13 MPG using a mixture of 2-cycle oil and Diesel Kleen added ever fill up. I started with two tanks with no additives and only hit about 11 MPG.
