Resto Tips...

I have been so focused on progressing with my restoration, that I haven't taken many photos but, since I've gotten so many great ideas from FTE forum members, I thought I would share some of my own. The 66 is a truck that my father in law purchased new.
Trying to devise a way to lift the bed, keeping it level and not scratching the eventual new paint, I came up with this 2x4 frame. Easy to put together with long deck screws and take apart to remove. The carpet will keep from scratching the paint and I can lift from four points to insure level and distribute the weight.
Steering column from '78 was completely disassembled for paint and shortened four inches to move the wheel close to the dash and make more room for me and my 2010 F150 seats. I didn't want to weld the steering shaft so I cut it to length and had a machinist mill the end for a double-D. A Borgeson U-joint nicely mates the DD to the 36-spline P/S gearbox.
Working on painting the badges, I found that (Testor's) model enamel works really well. I put it in a 3cc disposable syringe with a "needle" tip and just flow the paint into the recesses, filling them up. When the paint dries it has nice coverage and gloss, with very little cleanup to do around the margins.
I made my fuel door (in the bed) hinge from an invisible cabinet hinge. Welded to metal plates with slightly oversized holes, so I can adjust the door alignment after installation.
Thanks everyone for your input. I hope these ideas save someone else a little work!!
