Transmission rebuild advice 2003 6.8

I've been saving up for a bit to get my trans rebuilt, it clunks from first to second gear (broken spring problem) that's been since I got it but now it's loosing power going up hills and I can hear something spinning while it's under heavy load. My old mr2 did the same thing right before the clutch went out (same sound power loss).

My question to you guys, is going with a performance converter and rebuild worth it? Opposed to just going stock rebuild? Not sure I can spend $3000 on a $6000 truck, but if it's a serious difference I'd consider it.

Have a great weekend

Nope, don't do it. No chance is that worth the added cost. Find your local transmission shop and pick the one that has the best combination of reputation, price, and warranty. Make sure you have the cooler replaced at the same time, there's a good chance it's obstructed from the failure.

I agree with Tom mostly.
If you go for a performance converter, it's very likely you will lose some drivability on your truck. Unless you happen to get one that suits your driving style.
A solid rebuild replacing needed parts (including cooler) is your best bet for a daily driver. Consider any upgrade/improver kits carefully, and definitely use a local shop with a good reputation. I'd spend more time researching the shop than the transmission.

Most likely going that route. I do have a local shop that has incredible reviews.

Thanks
