The Start of the build: The Exhaust

Getting ready to order the downpipe for the truck: Diamond Eye 3" Aluminized 2 Piece Downpipe 7.3 Powerstroke 94-97 Ford - 122004

Obviously, ill need the rest of the exhaust, but I know next to nothing about exhaust. So what I was thinking was put the down pipe on, get a 3 inch to 5 inch exhaust adapter, put a 5 inch straight pipe going back and do a 90 right infront of the passenger rear wheel. Will this work? Is it legal? Also, about the downpipe installation, on a standard cab truck, do you have to modify the firewall?

Why not just get a complete turbo back? they are cheap enough and complete. Also you would not like the exhaust exiting in front of the tire your going to have soot on the wheels and truck bed. About the the firewall, yes you will have to bend/ cut the pinch weld, no missing it.

As for legality, depends on your local sound pollution laws. I run a 3"dp to a 5" straight pipe, exiting behind the rear tire and that sucker is loud outside.

I'd also put it behind the tire to reduce cab noise

I would go with a 5 inch pipe after the 3 inch down pipe, but I cant find any. Where do you recommend?

Im thinking of going with this: Diamond Eye 4" Turbo Back "Offroad" Exhaust W/ Muffler Delete

But do you have to weld it?

If you look at summit, it is $13 cheaper... it shows a picture with all the parts...its a clamp together....plan on at least rolling the seam on the firewall...

If you plan to keep the truck more than a year or two I would suggest stainless over the aluminized!

It depends on climate. Mine is used scraps but has been on mine for 4 years.
It was not looking beautiful anymore so I pulled it off and cleaned, scuffed and painted with grey header paint. Looks like new again.
If u live somewhere they spread lots of salt and you dd it in the winter...do the stainless.

If I was a duramax owner, Id keep the stock pipe and put a 8 inch flare on the end
