Hello i have a good question. I have a 2004 ford with a 6.0 powerstroke and a 2001 ford with a 7.3 powerstroke i want to put the 7.3 motor in the 2004 truck because its in better shape and i hate the 6.0 motor that part is not a problem my question is will the 2004 with a 7.3 pass a inspection or will i have to change tags so it all says 2001 or will they not notice anythink and say its an older truck check the basics and not smog test. I live in new york. Any answer greatly appreciated thanks.

 

Are both trucks the same length? Maybe you should just swap frames with engines still attached.

 

Or, maybe a cab swap?

 

I would say it varies by state(or how well you know the inspector). Some states do a visual check for emissions equipment and others just do a sniffer test. I would go to your inspection station and ask them to make sure.
