Duraspark II conversion on 1984 E150 4.9L
p { margin-bottom: 0.1in; line-height: 120%; } I'm planning to do the Duraspark 2 conversion on my newly acquired 1984 E150 4.9L which currently has the EEC IV / feedback carb setup. After doing some searches and a lot of reading it seems this is something I can handle. Almost all the posts here referencing this conversion had to do with the F-series trucks and I assumed the same info applied to the E-series vans as well.
However, I recently came upon some posts that said that the conversion info for the F-series, wiring in particular, does not apply to the E-vans and that a lot more needed to be done such as opening the main harness and tracing the wires, reassigning some wires, and adding yet more wires. 1984 vans came with either the EEC IV TFI or the Duraspark 2 ignition and it seems logical that, with the proper ignition harness, this would be a plug-and-play swap.
Has anyone here actually done the Duraspark 2 conversion on an E-van and can tell me what is actually involved? I have located an ignition harness out of a 1982 E-van 4.9L but don't have it in hand yet.
If the swap is beyond my comfort level I can always go to plan B which is to install a DUI dizzy with the one-wire hookup, but would rather have the Duraspark 2 system.
Thanks for any guidance.
