How do I get the rear diff fill plug out?

It is a big square and I tried sticking my 1/2" drive into it and was too larger, 3/8" is too small.

Is there a bit/special tool for this?

Thanks!

Nono, it is like a backwards square. It doesn't stick out.

How do I get the rear diff fill plug out?

I had a tough time getting the plug out on my 93...On my year of vehicle it is in fact a 3/8 inch square by mine was rounded out quite badly...I ended up getting an air chisel put to the edge of it to start it turning...Some people say to use heat around the diff casing. If worse comes to worse you could weld a bolt to the plug for something to hang on to.

Well I did try just to put an extension in there, I will go back clean it up a bit more and try to get it out.

Thanks for that weld-a-bolt on idea!

I've actually used an extension with a nice 18" breaker bar. Worked beautifully!!
