I went to the dealer today and got a order guide for the 2017's. It seems that the 5.4 has been dropped from the cutaway and stripped chassis models. The new standard engine is the 6.8. The 6 speed trans is the only one available and there is a revised axle availability chart. So now do I get a van from dealer stock or do I order one, hmmm.

I have D plan which saves me a lot of money and I am trading in my 14 dually which has a lot of equity in it. So I hope to get it well under 30k. My son bought a truck last month and despite him putting 10k down, they still wanted a cosigner because he didn't have a long enough credit history. So I am a little worried about that. If everything goes like I want it to, I should have it next week. The dealer also agreed to put in the factory brake controller which I am told is plug and play. Of course I will have to add my personal touches, driving/fog lights, some sort of steering stabilizer, reverse lights and maybe some wheels.

Must have missed that one, too big a hurry----thanks Jim!
The co-signer issue might impact the deal but I sincerely hope not, again that's a nice looking work truck. Could be all the postives about the two deals will stack up in your favor.
Let us know when this one has found a new home in your driveway.

I was going to get the short version but as I thought about it, in my line of work as a carpenter, I install a lot of doors and windows so it's nice to be able to pick up the windows at my convenience instead of waiting for a delivery. And at 50 years old., its nice not to have to bend over and get tools from the front, being able to walk in it is very nice feature.

Being in the same line of business........but strictly commercial doors.......
I just opp'ed for the same thing, only difference is I wanted the low roof line, which serves my needs for this van -
You'll soon find that the side boxes have more than enough room for tools and equipment, and walking up to the side is better that climbing into the back all the time, my only problem is remembering where I put what in which side box
The electric locks on the box is great, push a button to lock or unlock all the boxes, and you'll have the new aluminum Reading that will not rust for ever.
Kind of hate to say this, but the whole van I got for 40% of the advertised price down payment.........but then again, it's an '05 with 170K and need of a paint job (which we just got start on doing last week) I really don't need brand new for a work truck.
The '92 14ft cube van will stay in the fleet for larger jobs, like welded door frames, and larger bulky loads to the job site, the smaller '05 works great for our new gig that is a 365 mile trip each way to the site, thing rides, handles much better, and has no problem going up hills at the "posted" speed limit of 70 (or plus ) Much better mileage too.

I actually rented a E250 cargo van for a week and this week I rented a T250 transit just to see the difference between the two. I agree with you Wildman, having boxes on the side is something I have wanted for a long time. Going in and out of a cargo van or even a high roof transit van would get old very quickly. And I do like the towing capacity of the E series. I can't wait to get this van and load it up and go to work, so much time is saved when you have the right tool for the job.

Well that's a bummer---hate to hear this DualWheels.
Not sure how far you care to travel but if that configuration is a must have some sort of nation-wide search should find one more to your budget.
Having looked on eBay I've seen more than few somewhat similar so maybe that's one source? My last three standard E-Series have all come through that site, deals done off-line though. Sellers are a bit more prone to dealing since transaction fees etc can be avoided.
If nothing else you've got a reliable van for the meantime---that's good news!
