Unfortunately I can't claim the garage, it's actually the shop I work at. Former Caterpillar dealership, five 20+ foot wide bays, we just moved in last month.

Frame is bare. This stuff needs a new home.

Bed set on the 85 chassis.

The 85 chassis is quite a bit wider, and the profile is a bit different. I may have to drop the rear tank a bit so the bed can sit properly on the frame. I also need to build mounting crossmembers as the holes on the bed are considerably inboard of the frame rails.
I took a bunch of pics and measurements for body mount locations, and will post them later.

Jared, Just weld some plates to the frame, then drill them under the bed holes.

I wanted to add some more cross members so this seems like an ideal excuse for it. These frames, while being considerably stronger than the 60s ones, still have a bit of a twist issue. I am going to put an x brace underneath as well, but not until after the build.

No, it's quite thick and weighs a lot as it is. This frame also has a lot of holes, so there would be a lot of additional work to smooth it to prevent dirt buildup inside the frame.
I'm going to make it look good, but keep the rails pretty stock.

24" in wheelbase, a little shorter in front of the cab though. 131" vs 155".
