Chrome removal from grille

Has anyone removed the chrome plating from their plastic grille? It's already bubbled up pretty bad on my 250, and I'll be doing some paint work soon so I thought why not paint the grille body color. I've gotten some of it to peel up but there must be a bit easier and less time consuming way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'd take a gentle wire brush to it.

I heard that brake fluid and oven cleaner can safely remove chrome from plastic parts.
