Yea my dealership swears they can't order. On more than one occasion he's promised me that I'd get the first order they put in. But I am keeping him tightened up!

The actual order was placed and received a confirm from Ford it was received. Are they ordering it priority 20?
The process as I understand it:
Dealer orders
Ford responds saying received
Time goes by as all these pending orders sit out there, then Ford pulls orders by some logic
Trucks start rolling down the line
Ford builds similar groups of trucks in batches, so just because you were the first to order, and your ordered something very unique, you may wait a while when somebody who just ordered a common build, gets built before you

As Dan pointed out, it needs to be placed as a stock order as opposed to a sold/retail order. Ford isn't allowing retail orders until all the dealer stock orders are filled. So, basically, they dealer has to order it like it's being built to be put on their lot. They then just order it to your specs and sell it to you rather than putting it on the lot when it comes in. It's a well known work around for Ford's rules.

Hey guys, need some feedback.
I had gone to my local dealership this am and built out the truck I want to order, they say they aren't allowed to actually place the order until they get a stock allocation. That part makes sense I guess, but I have no idea.
I am on X-Plan. What didn't make sense is that they only want only wanted to talk Retail numbers and would not give me the total based on invoice. They went on to say that I would not know the actual invoice amount (or X-Plan amount) until they actually start physically building the truck.
For some reason that sounds fishy to me - how does someone commit to ordering a $70+k truck without knowing the price they'll pay. They said that working up the numbers based on the invoice pricing to give me a better ballpark was "frowned upon".
Am I crazy and this is just how it works? First time ordering and not buying off of the lot.

Sounds like your dealer just doesn't want to work with you. He is feeding you crap. Go somewhere else.
They can submit the order when the system is ready. It won't be built until they get allocation. They can tell you the invoice or x-plan price now as pricing is available.
You're not crazy, they are just being lazy.

Thanks for the feedback, I figured that was the case.
