1951 8BA What Is It?

Attached are photos of a metal tab attahced to the bell housing on my 51 F1. I cannot figure out what it is used for. It is located where the brake pedal return spring should hook to the bell housing. Is the spring supposed to hook over this tab? Under it? Or is the spring supposed to hook to the bell housing and this tab is there to......?

Help!

My spring hooks on that lower hole in the pic. I don't have the black painted tab like you do.

I'm not familiar with the black painted tab in your picture. Maybe a rebuilder added an ID tag?

It is shown on page 141 in the Shop Manual, so it is original. But for what?

I can only guess it serves some purpose with remote-shift LD 3-sp's. I can't think what, tho. There's nothing else around there.

Well I'll be darned, there it is. Unfortunately I still have no idea what it is for. I have not dug through the parts catalogs to see if it is in any of those illustrations.

I couldn't find it, Fred. No similar clear pics in the manual of the crashbox or HD 3-sp either, to see if it is LD 3-sp specific.
