Stock 1952 6 Volt Wiper Operation Question
I replaced my wiring, cleaned up, and re-lubed my stock 6 volt wiper assembly. I did not take it completely apart so the clocking of the gears and linkage never got touched.
It works very smoothly however, the wiper arms move toward and away from each other instead of parallel. I think I can reorient the mechanism to change it to parallel operation but, how was it setup when new?

Mine did this too. It was a NOS motor. They should both park towards the passenger side. I didn't need to remove the wipers from the truck. loosen the nut on the side that isn't correct (on the little lever that connects to the arm and pivot), and you can reposition that lever about 180 degrees.

Mine does not have a nut either. I would have to take the cover off the gear box opposite side of the parking switch and take the two motor housing bolts out. Then pull the gear box slightly away from the motor enough that it can tilt the worm gear away from the other gear so I can re-clock that arm.
Having to do all this is why I am wondering if the toward and away motion is normal.
I have it all set up in a vise right now. I'll put the wiper arms on and see if it would function. When I first got the truck I could have swore it did. The wipers stopped working when I started messing with the truck and I damaged the toasty old wiring.

I just looked at pics when I brought the truck home and both wipers are parked down and to passenger side. They will not fit parked toward each other.
I did not take gear boxes apart but I did unbolt the bracket that holds the linkage and remove the clips to the arms at the motor.
I will figure out what I did and let you guys know. I screwed up somewhere.

This is how I took it out of the truck. It worked....."moved" when I bought the truck but, I remember that one side had a stripped pivot. Now I know why.
This is all I took apart. Basically blew off with compressed air and changed the grease in the gear box.
So it is fixed now. I did have to rotate the passenger side arm on the gear box 180 degrees. Both arms are pointed to 3 o'clock and both still rotate opposite directions. Regardless of polarity........for those wondering about going negative ground.
The nut to take the arm off is inside the gear box. Glad I took it off because there was still plenty of gunk behind the gear and around the shaft. Much smoother now.
Another thing I found is do not tighten anything unless it is running. The motor was locked up until I left everything just barely snugged. I tightened ALL bolts and screws slowly while I had it running on my bench. I would tighten one and if the motor slowed down, backed off until it sped back up. It was super touchy this way.
It runs super smooth and pretty fast on high speed now. The motor no longer gets hot after a long run on the bench.
Now I have to drill and tap the stripped pivot for a set screw.
Thanks everybody for the feedback and advice.
