Twin I-Beams

I'm a fan of Twin I-Beams. What was the last year they were produced on a E150? Thanks,...jack

The E-series had twin I-beams until it's demise. The 2014 model year was the last for the Twin I-beam suspension on a Ford van.

Thanks, Tom.
On a side note: When did the F150 Pickups stop using the Twin I-Beam?

I believe that F150 switched to a double wishbone front suspension in '97, but I'm not certain.

2013 vans have it. Not sure why you find it appealing though. Burns up tires. Low maintenance though I guess.

How much do you get out of tires on your big-mileage vans? Any interesting tidbits of info regarding this?

I'm pretty much to the point I'd welcome king pin front axles back again!

The 92+ has ball joints on I beams, but all Econolines are I beam, all the way to the last one, as for tire wear, so far the 10 ply separate before the treads wear off, Coopers are garbage!

Last I checked we were typically able to get maybe 110k-120k out of a set of Michelin LTX M/S2. The thing is, if I get caught off guard, we'll end up with the inside edge of the fronts worn down so far that you can never actually utilize the tire to it's fullest since you start dropping below DOT specs on the inside. Gotta rotate them as soon as you start noticing that inside track getting funky.

I now have access to a tire machine and so I can flip them on the rims so the inside becomes the outside to even out the wear if I do get caught off guard. So that's helped sometimes. Probably not cost effective for those taking their van to a shop though.

Lucky you, I've ran Coopers, they rot and separate before the tread wears out, the load E, Discovery series both AT and HWY blow the sidewalls out, trying Sailun Chinese now, along with Dunlaps from dads truck. I don't have trouble with uneven wear, keep them rotated, the Dunlaps have over 30,000 on them.
