I'm fairly sure I read that upsizing even to 245's was a no go on the factory Alcoa rims. You're stuck with the OE size for the OE wheels.

What about on the DRW F350 with 17's how big of tire could I go? My dealer has a450 and a 350 both equipped same . Both with 4:30 rears, can I assume that makes it the max tow version ?

350s run non commercial LT tires which give you a much larger option pool of tires to choose from. Yes, the 4:30 F350 is max tow. You'd be GGG

But........ There's a special feeling when owning an F450

If you got a DRW 350 you could get some nice 20" wheels and tires. That would look sweet. The 450 requires going to 22" wheels to fit around the brakes and you loose a ton of capacity going that route. Kind of defeats the purpose of a 450...

Hi all,

In doing a little research on my potential next truck, I found this post regarding rim and tire size on the F450 and can see that it's highly discouraged to put anything other than the stock tire size on the 19.5in wheels.

Just curious about the reasoning, I know that you can push the limit on the SRW trucks with somewhat wider than stock tires on the stock wheels. Is it that the 19.5in tires (in the way they are constructed) that much more sensitive to rim size, or does it have to do with the capacity of the truck being so great that tire failure is much more of a concern?

So thinking ahead about the next truck and what mods I think I might want to do, I was thinking of larger tires (285/70/19.5) and what size wheel I would need to accommodate that safely. Would a 6.75in wide wheel work?

Thanks in advance.

Yup your onto it commercial grade 14 ply tires are so stiff it's recommended to stay stock . That said my tire shop put on 245's for me they look great and I don't see an issue but it's def the largest I'd risk

Thanks for the info. Which tires did you go with and do you have any pics of your set up?
