I just did the mod last week. 2004 F350 stock. I had the standard no cooling at idle and I would see oil and water climb from cruising temp of low 190's to well over 200 ( 212 was common) just by sitting in red light traffic. The install was straight forward and the difference is outstanding. Cruising temps now run 179/180 oil and water. Sitting in traffic temperatures have not climb past 190 yet. I should have stated the a/c is always on. I have not placed a temp gauge in the vent to check but I now have cool air always in traffic. I simply cut the plug off the old fan clutch and cap the electrical plug going into the engine harness. When the temperatures gets summer hot I will give more findings. Mike

You t-stat is weak unless you changed it out for a non-OEM spec.

I just unpluged my fanclutch when i did the mod,no codes that ive seen, my personal thought is its prob one the best if not the best mod you can do to this setup, it seems to help in every way and no negs involved, runs cooler, not as loud,ac way cooler,no expensive elec fan clutch to think about, not as much weight hanging off the water pump so might save the pump a few miles.

The t-stat is Motorcraft but old. I will install a new OEM one next weekend to avoid any issues before summer. Thanks

I can make any clutch solid an DC that is the way to go. Diesels like cool let keep it that way because when we hammer in our egt's keep us from killing the comp
I am tired of dodge and chevy. With all due respect you are rally blot on power with stock. Short lived.

Diesels like hot. Above 190. Best power, fuel economy and responsiveness.

I like this mod so far, but have a nagging question, actually 2...

Is it better to have a diesel engine run at slightly higher temps? As my understanding, the higher temps, just over 200*, helps with engine performance, and mileage, and helps keep the engine from coking/stiction.

If this is true, then if I ran the engine with a Mishimoto t-stat that opens at 200-202* would that affect this mod?

2nd.. didn't Ford go to the fan clutch in order for the engine to save gas by not having to push a fan blade all the time. in other words a direct drive type fan would always be turning by engine power causing the engine to be robbed of that HP, however insignificant.

Has anyone who did this mod noticed a drop in MPG?

Thx

.

Is there an aftermarket electric fan made for this truck? Not a fan clutch, but a stand alone electric fan that is not connected to the water pump, but just driven electrically?

You do not have to buy the fan clutch from anyone inpaticular,in fact youd be better off buying that from your local orielleys or napa so lifetime warranty anyplace in the country, its nothing fancy, same fan cluth used on the 7.3, bought my adapter from bpd but clutch itself from orielleys auto parts with a lifetime warranty, ive not noticed any mpg changes just from this mod, also it does not rob power i can tell and i pull heavy weekly, once you put this mod on please let people here know what you think.

Does any body have the part number for the fan clutch to do this upgrade? I'm thinking about doing for better cooling pulling heavy on these mountain passes.

I figure I'm stuck with getting that from BPD. Just don't know the part number for the fan clutch part. Was hoping to be able to shop around for that.
