Is this a good deal?

Hello. I am a long-time member here, frequenting other forums here. However, I am looking to upgrade our family vehicle. Am looking at an 07 Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4 4x4, and all the goodies that go with it...It has 121K on it and the guy is asking $10,900.

Is this a good deal?

Any known common major problems on this vehicle?

I have a 06 F150 so I feel fairly comfortable around the engine, etc.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance!!

It seems phasers are still an issue with these motors. And the transmission is less than favorable on that year. I'd keep looking for something 09+

They just aren't as strong as the 09 and up models. The 4R75e in your 06 truck is even considered a stronger trans than the 6R75 trans in this truck. It's safe to say you'll spend money on it.

Oh. Well will it not hold up just driving around? I will likely never tow or haul heavy...

Probably. But I really think you should keep looking. These trucks are getting older by the day and the use car market looks better ever day with them. If you've never owned a Ford truck (make no mistake, these are trucks), the longer you have it, the more you'll love it. A lot of people just love how reliable and well made they are, and most of the time the truck out lives the owners intended usage and they end up becoming a back up truck, or hand-me-down, because they bought another Ford.

I recommend you be willing to go the distance, literally, and put in a little extra for this truck, and I promise you, it will do the same.

With that being said, here are some prime examples of the beautiful expeditions that are out there.

These are all 09+ trucks near the price of the one you are looking at. They are considered to be bulletproof, meaning nothing over regular maintenance should be expected to need to be done to them.

Well turns out I bought an 08 EB 4x4 with 114k. So far we really like it. It definitely has some use, but I think it will do well for us.

I do have an 06 F150 as well, so I kinda knew what to expect. So far, I have not been disappointed.

Couple of questions:

1. Are the spark plugs still problematic on this year of 5.4?

2. The "liftglass" seems to work intermittently. Is there a certain sequence of events or a time period or something that prevents the glass from unlatching?

3. The transmission shifts a bit funny from 1-2. Kinda hesitates or stutters, not sure how to describe it. Is this about what to expect?

4. Are the rear shocks/struts known to be a problem? Seems like there's quite a bit of bounce in the rear of the vehicle when going through dips, over bridges, etc.

Lastly, any advice/tips/comments/questions welcome!

I have an 08 4x4 Expy EL XLT.
1. Check the boots, if they are brown you are good. If not, get the Lisle tool before plug change
2. I don't have this issue, so something might not be right there.
3. the 1-2 shift is wonky, apparently they have a TSB to reprogram the tranny, but as far as I know only a dealer can do that.
4. I don't have this issue either, but maybe you have the air suspension? Not sure if that's an Expy option or not, or only on Navigators.

I like mine, only issue I have right now is a broken exhaust manifold stud that I'm procrastinating getting fixed since I know it is a big job.

No I have the shock/strut suspension.

Is there a TSB somewhere that I can refer to for the dealer reprogram of the trans?

Pretty sure the boots are black on the COP's. Do I wait till I get a misfire to change plugs or do I act aggressively and do it before there is a problem? And yes, I have the Lisle tool. I've changed plugs on two 5.4s before and the tool saved my bacon both times.

I found this thread on the shocks: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...xpedition.html I'll probably be doing this at some point.

So got another issue going on. I only get air (cold or hot) from the roof vents of the rear air system. When I turn **** to hot (feet) it still comes out the top. I sense this can be a fairly common problem. Can someone explain a fix for me?

TIA

That's the actuators in the system failing. It's fairly common, and gets expensive if you aren't willing to tear the truck apart on your own.
