yeah, it looks like they're trying to make everything run on 87 now. I wonder though, will these engines still see any performance benefit from higher octanes? I guess if they aren't pre-detonating with 87, then it wouldn't give you any extra power with 93.
And when you put a tune on it, what exactly does the ECU change to make it benefit from a higher octane?

All of these engines adapt their timing based on feedback from the knock sensor. I've seen dyno sheets comparing 87 and 93 octane on bone stock engines showing a healthy improvement in power and torque.

There's definitely more power that can be had, but guys like me aren't interested in paying for it. I ran 93 octane once in my last truck and never noticed much of a difference. I wouldn't buy a truck that required premium fuel.

Hmm.. Now with mine, the compression is lower, 8:1 I think. the same 6.2 in the raptor was rated on 93, but I heard that had a different factory tune. I wonder if I'd see any performance increase.

Nope, yours is a bit higher than that. The 6.2L has 9.8:1 compression. You'd never see anywhere close to 385 HP if it was 8:1.

IIRC, the Super Duty 6.2L has a 9.8:1 C/R.

Forgot the 9, but I knew an 8 was in there somewhere, lol. I must have looked at that stat a hundred times on the ford site.. Ok, so it's not that different from the rest after all.

And about the performance from just dumping 93 in, as is... So that is, or isn't likely to improve anything?

It all depends on the tune and engine control parameters. If the engine has the ability to advance the timing enough to take advantage of the higher octane fuel, then you're going to experience a performance increase.
