How much $ to install wiring kit?

As some of the others have said, the hardest part is often thinking thru what you want and what you need. The universal harnesses all have some things that need to be relocated or added. For instance, Painless has a wire to feed power to the wipers, but they don't include the wiring from the control to the motor. Things like this can make you pull your hair out if you don't add those wires before you route everything thru the firewall and dress it out. All of the universal kits I have seen lack many of the ground wires. you will have to add them. The only tools you need will be some good quality wire cutters, wire strippers and crimpers. Maybe a soldering iron if you prefer to solder splices instead of crimping but splices. I use heat shrink on every connection for added peace of mind.

I did the harness myself. It was my first attempt ever at rewiring a vehicle at the same time I went from 6volt to 12volt and from a generator to a GM alternator. If you take your time, think things thru its not too hard. Where are you located? I'm in eastern PA between Lancaster and Philadelphia, I'd help you with it if your near by.

From what I know it's a 12v as are all 56s. I could be wrong though about that statement...The battery is old and most the labels are faded/gone but it looks like a 12v. For those who have done it themselves, were you experienced or you just take your time and learn as you go? Any specials tools for cutting etc?
As many have already said, there are several sources that supply premade wiring harnesses both for original wiring diagram and/ or universal. When I rebuilt my first truck I made my own harness which took me about 2 days on and off. If you have the basic wiring tools and technical skills it's not that difficult.
