19 code axel swap

I have a 1989 f150, 4x4, with a 19 axel code. The rear end is going out, lots of play on the pinion shaft which I hear is a common problem. My question is what year axels will fit in this. I am looking for a straight axel swap. Can I go with a newer model outside of this series truck (1987 to 1996) ? Mine has drum breaks, can I put one on that has Disc breaks without a bunch of modifications? Thanks for your help.

86-96 F150/bronco will be a direct swap

Anything else will NOT bolt in

Welcome to the forums.

Why not just replace the pinion bearings? If it is not howling yet the gearset likely isn't hurt.

I did my '89 2wd last winter. Same issue, you could wobble the pinion around. Never made any noise. I pulled ring gear and removed pinion, replaced bearings and put it back together. Still fine. I suppose yours is still an 8.8 out back?
