2 K spray cans..opinions please
I should know better than to ask for opinions, but here goes. Have any of you used the 2k spray cans that have the hardener in a "capsule" inside the can and a plug like button is pushed from the bottom to release it. Shake to mix, is it really a 2k ? I know eastwood sells it as well as others. Opinions ? Want to use the epoxy primer on bare metal.
Thanks in advance.

I have seen it used by Kevin Tetz videos but I have never had an occasion to use it myself. The cost vs benefits trade-off seems to be in the favor of the DIY guy who just has an occasional need to spray a small area and either doesn't have the equipment to do the job or doesn't want to break it out because the job is too small. As I understand the paint itself is a true 2K...the problem I have with rattle cans in general is that the paint is thinned way too much in order to get it to spray out the small nozzle. Not very good coverage.

A little trick I learned from an old time hotrod guy. You're always going to block primer anyway, so put it on with a small foam paint roller. It goes on unbelievably smooth, easy to block out, and you'll use less, since there wont be any airborne particles. It may take an hour longer to do the whole truck, but the material saved and clean up is well worth it.

I have used it and recently bought another can for touch-ups on a couple vehicles.
Pros, is 2K and very durable. has a good spray nozzle and lays down a great pattern.
Cons, pricey, nozzle is great for panels and larger areas but you have to be careful when using for spot repairs. Once activated it has a short shelf life so you need to use up the can.
I used the 2K in quarts to paint my frame then used the aerosol cans for touch-ups.

The thing to keep in mind is that when you break the capsule and mix the hardener with the primer, the pot life is minimal (check label instructions), so you'll need to use the whole can at once. If you just have a small spot to do and can't use the whole can, there could be considerable waste of both material and money.
