I checked that. It's correct.

Last time I had it running a few hours ago, after i put the fresh plugs in, I got it revved up some and it SEEMED to start running a little better, but it still won't idle and it's still rougher than a washboard road...

But even when I had it revved up, my ears told me I was above 2000 rpm, but the tach was jumping around at 1200 or so.

You need to wipe down the plug wires and clean the the dizzy cap with brake lean. If you got an5tifreeze one those items they could be arcing and causing your issue.

Thanks 390. Will do. I let everything dry out but didn't actually clean it.

Which one now ~~~same one??

If so then do this, remove the valve spring and then turn by it's stem check for a bent stem shaft. It will hang up in one area as your turning it.

The stem will tighten up as the eng warms up an making it harder to move the valve putting to much pressure on the cam. ..

Make that all the lobes... Son of a B!

I'm thinking now I have to pull the engine and tear it down for a rebuild, after all that steel went through it. At the very least I'll probably need bearings....

Well long story but it ended up as going to the junk yard.

Put the 390 gt built motor & 4spd into a 57 ford cp. As I was kind of slowing the street racing mode with women taking up more of my time.

You know the early 60's was a time when great cheat car deals came a long when you did not have any cash in your pockets. And still many guys then did not know much about fixing or repairing engines so all a guy needed to do to get a great deal was save up some cash then have a friend or your brother tow ya home. Pull the motor the next day then hit the wreaking yards and buy a non smoking V8 ford for like $25-35 bucks and go home an drop in the new motor and in two days you've got a nice looking newer ride for cheap.

Your filter should catch like about 99% that being picked up the rest will be flung into other places that may drop into the pan. I've put a magnet into the pan an inside my oil filter to catch any thing that may get through it. back in day when flatten a few lobes

Now figure out why did this happen so you don't repeat this..

I have a magnetic plug. And I hope the filter did catch most of it. But when i pulled the intake off this evening, it looked like someone poured silver paint in the valley.

I've been without it for over a week now. I miss driving it.

At least I have willing family member that is letting me borrow their ranger until I can get my bump all sorted out and healthy again. So I'm not totally screwed like if I didn't have a vehicle. And at least I can maintain my dignity and uphold my reputation as a ford truck man! Haha

Hmmm. After catching up and reading this thread I'll stand pat on the oil gut feeling I texted you earlier. If you stop and think about it a lot of stuff that's happened now and in the past"could be" an oil or oil supply problem. The bent pushrod a while ago could have been from a lifter not getting enough. Tieing up. Maybe not the broken valve spring, but who's to know? I know 20000 miles later but look at the current situation. The common factor I see is oil. Whether it be brand, supply throughout the engine, or zinc. If it were me I'd either jump to one of your other 351Cs,or Champfer the main bearing holes in the block, have that block vatted, then get something like the ol' pipe cleaners to stick in all the oil passage holes to make sure they were clean and totally open. (remember that trick Rich?) New American made name brand oil pump. I'll let Rich or Bobby chime in if standard, high volume, or high pressure pump would be the best. Ford gave the 351M the bigger diameter 400 main bearing diameters for a couple of reasons. Not that the mains are the current problem but I'm good at Chess. Take care of the current problem and those 3 or 4 moves in the future.
