Bigred highboy build

I finally got the time and room to put my truck into my garage about a week ago to start a partial resto and possibly a motor swap

The cab after removing the seat and most of the carpet.

The 390 that is currently in it

It seems that everyone finds some extra rust.

^ agree'd I'm so used to finding rust on the floors and other places on these trucks. Anytime I go to look at buying one I assume floor pans and cab mounts will be needed. Got to thank the rust belt for that. What are your plans for the truck any upgrades?

The plan is to swap either a Cummins or a 7.3 into it but I need to take care of the rust and redo the wiring before I can swap anything in.

You can kind of see some of the rust in the drip rail and top of the cab in this picture

I remember hearing a car restoration guy say there was something like an 80/20 rule for rust. It goes something like "there's four times more hidden rust than what you can see." Has that been your experience?

One of them engine swaps would be fun to do. I been pondering a 7.3 swap in my next build. Your Truck looks good to start with. Make sure you get that drip rail rust under control that stuff can get bad. I had to cut pieces and replace them on my truck.

Yea I'd agree with him on that. 9/10 times any rust you can see there's plenty more that you can't see. I've dug into lots of vehicles and many times it's like paper thin metal that the screwdriver just breaks through.

The plan right now is to fix the rust before anything else and we know the owner of a local body shop so if the rust is really bad we can send it to him or get a new cab

Got some rust repair to do. The drip rails are notorious for getting rotted out. I'll be pulling my windshield out in the next couple weeks I hope I don't run into anything bad. How's the lower section of the windshield frame any pics?
