After I updated to SD harness, I had a convo with my buddy with an SD. He asked why in the hell did I do all that extra work, (instead of replacing the one burnt pigtail I had) because the SD's still have the same issue.

Just throwing it out there, I personally agree with him I should of swapped my 8 gp's and one burnt tail and one burnt uvch and be done with it, (personally most regretted mod yet, but it works fine)

Update
I ordered a full set of replacement parts both for early and late 7.3. I'll likely change over to the SD Parts as some have suggested. The SD set up is about $150 less all together. I also ordered some navistar pigtails also to make the comparison to Allient power pigtails.

Here is my thought, the early 7.3 connector pigtails are a bad design because of the female box style spade connector in the pigtail. This style of terminal does not appear to be tight enough to begin with. Loose terminal with low surface area create resistance adding heat and further breakdown of the terminal and more and more resistance is created to the point of burning up the pigtail. Perhaps this is why the change was made in 99 to a single plug..

Anyway, still doing more research. Trying to find he weakest link in this system. I can't say witch is better yet, Navistar Vs Allient, or early Vs late model..

I hear ya. Thanks for the input. Well im at a cross roads. I have all the parts to go either way. SD set up looks a bit better in terms of wire guage. And would be less expensive to replace if and when it happens again. Only question is the SD is 9 wire vs 10 wires on two connectors on my original pigtails. Is there a how to guide out there, i cant seem to find a write up..

Looking at the plug face on a superduty its
G G 1 3 C 5 7 G G
On your current plug it's
G 1 C 3 G and G 5 C 7 G
So you need to take both C on your connectors and solder it to the C on the superduty plug

If you open the wire harness up enough you'll find where the wye is on the C. I eliminated the Wye on each side on my conversion.

This sounds like something I might do, on one of my trucks, if it's worth while.
