1991 F-Superduty bumper build (Lots of pics)

So I've been wanting a heavy duty bumper for my F-450 for quite sometime now... Finally got around to it. Front piece is 1/4 12" C channel with 3/16 diamond plate top, 1/4 side pieces, 1/4 mounts and 1/4 gussets. I also got a piece of 5/16 2x5 square tubing welded in the center of the bumper to keep it from wrapping around telephone poles IF I were to accidentally hit one. I'd rather be jarred around a bit then have my truck totaled to the scrap yard.. That's just me. Most bumpers are made to bend and crush. Not to worried about the bumper being stronger than the frame. It's a F-Superduty. They have the thickest/most robust frames of the Bricknose/OBS trucks. Enough talk! Pics!

You can see the stock bumper is pretty banged up and doesn't match the truck at all. Need a more fitting bumper to match the flatbed.

That bumper is solid for sure, I would defiantly hate to be the guy who ever hits you if it they do. Nice welding!

Yea it look like 6 months of planning to get a design that I liked.. I decided that a flat, straight bumper would be the best for a flat straight front end like a bricknose. The F-Superduty is also my first car (got it at 17, now 18 going on 19) thing rides like hell but people sure do get out of your way and looks aggressive, even more so with the new bumper

When you got time take photo of truck from a distance just to show the before and after perspective.

the odds of survival in a crash has lowered now too.without any give whatsoever, all the force will be transferred into your body.ouch! (or completely painless i suppose if your going fast enough lol) be careful.that makes for a nice step for working in the engine bay though.

I just wanted to know if that bumper added enough weight to make the f superduty ( or f950 as it was called in that thread) ride smoother? You should register on the pirate 4x4 forum and post this in the big ghey truck land thread, tell those boys about your f450 daily driver you'll be famous

Edit, should have mentioned big ghey truck land thread is a humor type thread should have tossed in an lol.

It does make it a lot easier to work on the truck now with something to stand on. Not to worried about the odds of survival, I don't drive all crazy lol. Any stock car/truck or deer that hits it will be crushed anyways.

The bumper weighs somewhere around 300lbs. It did make it ride a little better in the front. The rear still has the back busting ride though

If someone does hit me, it would look something like this. It would use their crumple zones to absorb the impact.

What a bunch of haters, at least this guy will be alive!! Never mind a damn bent frame they make more trucks.

Sure it won't be this truck but you will live to tell us about it. Can't say so much for the guy who hits you though ????

All it needs now is a couple of tires cut and bolted to it. You could push trains or make a wrecker out of it! Ugly but forceful. Nice job with the fabrication and welding though. It's not what I'd want on the front of my truck. I'm in my rear view looking for you...

Ikr? it would take a pretty damn hard impact to bend a F-450 frame anyways. If you think about it, a well made bumper is going to enhance the strength of the frame, less twist and more overall rigidity. Like an extra cross member.

The idea of a well made bumper is to distribute the shock evenly between the two rails of the frame.
