Completely stock 97...fighting urges for some mods

Well the 97 cclb is completely stock except magna flow exhaust. I'm happy with it but I also liked the the last 97 f250 I had, that had a sb intake, exhaust and ts chip. It also had a edge insight.

I'm torn about adding things but I was think of doing the riffraff 6637 filter and adding a ts chip and monitor since the monitor can control the 6 maps.

Or those simple mods gonna wreck havoc or are a good idea for the truck? I drive like a old man most of the time but sometimes wouldn't mind have Alittle more juice

Your not going to wreck havoc, a lot of the mods are just letting the engine breath better and also be able to get rid of the exhaust better, which you have done already. There are tons of threads on mod.

Well i have a 95 that is well was stock. I am doing a body swap due to rust and rot gotta cheap deal on a body in idaho while there last. Into it for 50.00 bought another truck and brought back both, company paid mileage as i was working. Sold the other truck (74 f150 4x4 sb). Anyway since the cab and box are off i am doing all the stuff, crazy not too. New manifolds, new up pipes, replace glow plugs, rebuild oil cooler,6 post ts chip, exhaust, Dp,.... Anyway reason why is it is all going to be easy to do cab off. But if my old cab was in better shape i would have done dp,chip, intake.
Can check it out look up

I'm sort of in the same boat. I have an almost bone stock '96 with a few "mods" which are more like "things Ford should have done to our trucks at the factory"...

I would suggest starting with the 6637 mod. Its not a huge power improver BUT it is better than the stock air box. The stock air box also has tendency to leak letting particulates past the air filter and into the turbo. No Bueno!

Another mod I would suggest is the Crankcase Ventilation mod. Its basically just re-directing the crankcase vent out of the intake and into a home made oil catch canister. I made mine with ABS pipe parts from Home Depot and some scotch brite as the filter medium; I mounted mine on the frame rail just under the driver side floor board. Unfortunately I don't have any pics but I came up with it from another write-up I most likely found on this site years back.

If you don't already have gauges, I would also suggest adding in a pyrometer (exhaust gas temp), boost gauge and tranny temp gauge. This is a must especially if you plan to put a chip in later on down the road. Besides you'll at least know what your engine is doing.

I'm still torn on adding a chip. At this point I want to do it strictly for the fuel economy but the power boost can't be too bad.

Good Luck!

You don't need the crank case mod if you have no intercooler, so ignore that one.

It keeps the oil out of the turbo.
