Coil packs - OEM or aftermarket?

Hey guys, I'm new to this, but I am in need of assistance. I have a couple of bad coil packs, and I am wondering if I should buy a set of 8 aftermarket or just replace 1 at time with OEM?

I always replace the ones that go bad and leave the rest. No use replacing something that still works, especially at $65 a piece for motorcraft. I only use motorcraft, but there are a few other brands that get good recommendations on here. Just stay away from the cheap off brand stuff.

I replace them on an "as needed" basis. My local A/P store sells the yellow colored ones (I forget the brand) and I have not had any issues with them. On a side note, if I replace any, I install the new ones in the hardest location to get to. Makes it easier if/when a new one is needed.

I've found it to be a giant pain of swapping coils around to find 'the one'. So I've done all my '03 with cheapo parts store ones over three years ago and no issues yet. My buddy and I just switched his truck out a month ago with accels, many jokes about the horsepower increase due to the yellow colour. So far so good on his 'high performance' ones. Lol.

I would go with the Motorcraft as it is a OE part. Only replace the ones as needed. Places like Rockauto.com have them for a bit less as well, be sure to use a 5% discount code during purchase.

OEM.
Those accel , and many more of the aftermarket so called performance coil packs, have caused problems for many of my friends in the Mustang community.

I have not used anything but original Ford on my truck or Mustang.

I've never used any "performance" aftermarket units that claim higher voltages as the spark plugs are of the resistor type. All that extra voltage is just wasted.

I have used several aftermarket brands and have found that NAPA's "echlin" brand to be the best aftermarket unit. But, at the same time, every one of my misfires was due to moisture in or a cut in a plug boot. I have successfully fixed a misfire 9 times of 10 by replacing just the boots and using copious amounts of dielectric grease on the outside and inner contact surfaces of the boot to ensure a moisture seal.

To me its all about how long the last ones lasted. If you think you got a good service life out of the original ones than why change to the unknown.

I spent considerable time studying this subject back when I needed coils. I didn't just limit my studying to this site- I was all over the Internet: including finding people who had some miles on aftermarket coils.

I'm a scrooge with money, and even with that being a factor, I went MOTORCRAFT. It's all I'll use for coils, based on my research.
