CV Axle disassembly ?, outboard side, c-clip?

Hi all,
2003 Expedition, rear CV axles: Inner(plunge) side comes apart for inspection, cleaning, reassemble, but for outer-I can't see a c-clip, and hesitate to pry too hard on one of the *****; do you need to beat the inner race off the shaft to separate? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks Alloro. That does help;
"6. NOTE: The outboard CV joint is not removable from the halfshaft. "
I may still try to pull the assembly from the shaft, as I've sprayed it w/ brake cleaner trying to break down the grease. If successful, I'll post the results. Thanks very much.

Yeah...good luck with that. It's either formed in place or the shaft is super cooled while the joint is heated. The joint is slipped on and when the two reach equal temperature they are bonded for life.

Success

The outer end of the rear CV axles can be separated. The shaft has a 1/32 or a 1/16" of in and out movement, between it and the inner race. On the outboard end of the half-shaft is a small-diameter c-clip. A couple of light taps on the inner race and the shaft can be removed, and the joint rebuilt. I'll put some miles on my axles, and if I have troubles I'll re-post. Thanks.

Hmm, interesting...must be a design change somewhere along the line. Anyway...bonus for you.
